On Monday, 21 May 2012, in recognition of her accomplishments as musician, educator, and community engagement activist, violinist Midori was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree (Mus.D.) by Yale University. Since 1702, Yale has conferred honorary degrees in order to recognize individuals of extraordinary accomplishment and service. This year, Midori joins eight other honorees whose work has made a significant impact in one of the ten fields in which Yale awards honorary degrees:

Xenakis: Composer, Architect, Visionary, on view at the MOCA Pacific Design Center from

November 6, 2010-February 4, 2011. The exhibition will explore the sketches, drawings, and musical scores of Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001), one of the most important figures in late twentieth-century music. Xenakis originally trained as an engineer and was also known as an architect, developing iconic designs while working with Le Corbusier in the 1950s.

On Friday, 09 July 2010, the legendary Bill Holman Band will make its first appearance at Vitello's Jazz & Supper Club, increasingly recognized as an essential venue on the jazz scene in Los Angeles. Bill Holman, recipient in 2010 of the National Endowment for the Arts NEA Jazz Masters Award, has for decades led this 16-piece band, known to pack a thrilling punch with tight execution, nimble ensemble, and virtuosic soloing. Vitello's music director April Williams says "We have long wanted to present this exceptional band, and we're celebrating their first appearance at Vitello's with a champagne toast to start the evening!" The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced that violinist Midori is one of only four recipients of this year's Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts (KCICA) Gold Medal in the Arts. The awards are given to exceptional performers and arts leaders in the international community. Midori will accept her award at a special ceremony in Tokyo on Tuesday, 25 May 2010, along with her fellow award recipients, architect Tadao Ando, Kabuki actor Kanzaburo Nakamura, and stage director Yukio Ninagawa. Winners of the prestigious Medal in past years have included Dame Judi Dench, Valery Gergiev, Mercedes Sosa, Trevor Nunn, and Lord Jacob Rothschild, among others.
