Kyung Wha Chung

The violinist Kyung Wha Chung was recognized from the moment she won the Leventritt Competition on the Carnegie Hall stage exactly 50 years ago to be an artist of exceptional command and the rarest of musical gifts. She returns to Carnegie Hall tonight in a program seldom attempted by even the most adventurous of her colleagues, a traversal of the complete solo sonatas and partitas of J.S. Bach in a single evening. This feat is all the more remarkable, coming on the heels of an absence of several years from her performing career necessitated by a finger injury from which she is now fully recovered. Recently signed to Warner Classics, Ms. Chung realized her lifelong dream to record Bach's sonatas and partitas, in the release of her very first recording for the label last Fall. Consistently lauded for her passion, her elegant musicality, and the intense excitement that she brings to her performances, Chung’s uniquely expressive interpretations combine tonight with her deep connection to the repertoire to promise an exceptional evening of drama and charged emotion.
