Historic Tilson Thomas/Buffalo Philharmonic recording of complete Carl Ruggles to get first release on CD

Michael Tilson Thomas and the Buffalo Philharmonic's historic and long deleted 1980 recording of the complete music by Carl Ruggles, originally issued on Columbia Masterworks, is to get its first release on CD by Other Minds.

The two-disc set preserves the playing sequence of the original LPs and includes their liner notes – by Tilson Thomas and pianist John Kirkpatrick. A 36-page booklet features rare photographs of the composer, along with the original cover illustration, a portrait of Ruggles by Thomas Hart Benton.

Added to the re-issue is an essay about Ruggles by the late composer Lou Harrison, originally published in 1946 and until now out of print.

The Complete Music of Carl Ruggles will be released in the US on April 24
